Chronic Pain: New Technologies for Painless Treatment
Chronic pain, unrelated to MSK injuries, is increasingly prevalent and in younger age groups than ever before. Chemo-induced neuropathies, complications of diabetes, ulcers and lymphoedema are present within our existing patient loads, but who often present for other clinical problems. Advances in modern technology in the field of photobiomodulation, via LED or medical laser, provides opportunities for therapists to provide pain free, cost-effective therapy. Modern PBM units delivering high power, dual wavelengths as well as hands free machines, have revolutionised treatments. This includes the new use for non surgical debridement of ulcers. An overview of the research and treatment applications will be presented.
