It has been Andrea’s career long ambition since the age of 18 years old to become a Podiatric Surgeon. An ambition that became a reality following the birth of her two children in 2008 and 2010 when she began her MSc in The Theory of Podiatric Surgery in 2011. She achieved her surgical fellowship in 2019 under the tutelage of Mr. Stephen Finney and her Independent Prescribing and Annotation in 2020.

In 2021 she began her Specialist Registrar post with Mr. Ben Yates and Mr. Matthew Cichero at Great Western Hospital, Swindon, gaining her Completion Certificate in Podiatric Surgery Training in 2024. She has a strong portfolio of elective surgical management of the foot including the rearfoot, the management of the high-risk foot, limb salvage and limb preservation surgery and she has an on-call presence in the daily management of acute admissions and limb threatening presentations.
She has delivered a national workforce review as project officer for the Royal College of Podiatry, developing and demonstrating increasing national leadership and igniting her ambition to become a senior clinical academic, connecting her surgical skills to research and innovation leadership.

She has undertaken several research projects and delivered corresponding national and international presentations. She is building her research, leadership, and education portfolios. Andrea’s passion for work in limb salvage, preservation of foot function and amputation prevention and her enthusiasm for research and the high-risk foot will hopefully begin to form the next steps in her career journey.

This is a personal account of my experiences as I have progressed from a podiatrist to a surgeon building an extensive portfolio in surgery, limb salvage and preservation, research and leadership.
