Follow the inspiring career of Rena, a dedicated and passionate podiatrist whose academic achievements laid a solid foundation for her successful career in Podiatric surgery. With a Bachelor of Science (Hons) degree in Podiatry from The University of Westminster and a Post Graduate Diploma in the Theory of Podiatric Surgery from the University of Brighton, Rena quickly rose in her field, earning her Surgical Fellowship from the Royal College of Podiatry in 2019.

Beyond her clinical ambitions, Rena is committed to enhancing the visibility of her profession. Through regional and national presentations, she passionately informs and educates others about the importance of podiatric health. Rena plays a pivotal role in significant initiatives such as the HCPC Annotation of Podiatric Surgery project, which aims to establish recognised standards within the healthcare community.

Within her current role as SpR in Podiatric Surgery at Buxton Hospital she is involved in elective surgery of the foot and ankle, but also has key involvement in MDT care and management of high-risk diabetic patients with limb threatening diabetic foot ulcers, limb salvage and amputation prevention.

This heartrending narrative highlights the grim statistics surrounding diabetic foot complications, the leading cause of non-traumatic amputations in the UK, costing the National Health Service (NHS) an astounding £1 billion annually—a figure projected to double in the next 12 years.

Rena’s presentation will cover the aims and the role of podiatric surgery in managing diabetic foot complications and limb salvage in line with the most up to date international working group for the diabetic foot guidelines (IWGDF 2023).
